This scandi-style wicker chair was in a Richmond charity shop and in need of some TLC.  Some of the rattan work was dried out and broken and had to be replaced with the new sections dyed to match the original colour. All the wicker work was given a rejuvenating coat of linseed oil.  The frame was also dirty and tarnished so everything was sanded down, re-stained to the warm original colour and protected with tough furniture oil. The galvanised fittings were cleaned up and polished. Finally the white top cushion was remade in a nice mid-century looking fabric and a completely new seat cushion added.  Restored to its former glory and beyond!

An elegant, stylish chair given a new lease of life

How we found it in the charity shop

The seat had several rows of rattan that were brittle and broken

The frame was worn and tarnished especially on the arms

Dismantled, the wooden frame was stripped back, recoloured and finished with Osmo Oil

The repaired rattan was nourished with Linseed oil. The frame, here getting a final coat of Osmo oil

Two sections of the seat had to be rewoven. Here they are being coloured to blend in with the original.

Choosing fabric. We found these at Sew New in Northallerton

Re-assembled, a new seat cushion was made and the white headrest replaced with a new one matched to the seat

Neatly shaped and sewn new headrest
